Bad Idea

Alex Burch always thought it would be a bad idea to open a wine bar in Nashville. The world of wine and high end dining often carries a sense of exclusivity. Burch dreamt of creating a space where trying new food felt like adventure, and learning about wine as comfortable and fun.

The name celebrates taking risks and invites those who enter to loosen up: no need to worry that you need to google what's on the menu or that you never learned to "speak wine." Lasso created a visual identity that embodied this spirit — food and wine should be fun, and best enjoyed when you loosen up and delight in experiencing something new.

Interior & Creative Partners
With a love for design, Burch partnered with experts at every touchpoint. The restored old church in the center of East Nashville set the stage for the gorgeous interiors by Design Object and architecture by EOA.

The striking wood wall behind the bar was designed by New Hat, who crafted an homage to the senses and brought in brand elements into the interior. The custom bar was fabricated by Aberdeen, the striking bar cloud was crafted by Mesa and The MCR Group led the build out of the space.

"Bad Idea isn’t just a new restaurant. It is a celebration of wine exploration, an expression of Nashville’s design talent, and a testament to creative collaboration," says Nashville Design Week.
